IRS provides routine (3-yearly) online compliance audits as part of the RPA appointment. These audits are undertaken as a complementary service for all customer appointing IRS as their RPA. One online compliance audit questionnaire to be completed during the contract term.

For veterinary practices seeking RCVS accreditation to General Practice standards or higher, the RCVS will also require evidence of an RPA visit, undertaken at least once every four years.

IRS offer radiation protection services packages, tailored to suit your requirements. Please use the table below to indicate which of IRS’s contractual packages you require:

*Please note: Equipment performance and radiation safety is required by Regulation 11 of The Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 (IRR17) and Regulation 15 of The Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposures) Regulations.

Recommended testing frequency is dependent on the type of X-Ray equipment used. In most circumstances, Intra oral/Pan Oral (2D) equipment requires safety checks at least once every 3 years, whereas handheld Intra oral and Cone Beam CT (3D) units will require annual checks. Cone Beam CT users may only require 3-yearly checks if a suitable QA test object is available and monthly tests are conducted, as itemised in Appendix I2 of the dental guidance notes.

All necessary radiation safety and equipment performance checks may be covered by a service and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) contract. However, the service and PPM may NOT cover all checks required. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure all checks are undertaken by competent persons. IRS’s FAQs provide a comprehensive list of tests that IRS advise, as RPA/MPE, is undertaken.

Section 3 - Dosimetry Services

IRS offer a wide range of Personal and Environmental Radiation Monitoring devices that can measure the effective and equivalent doses received by persons exposed to ionising radiations.

Our flexible and competitively-priced personnel monitoring service can supply monitors to be worn for periods of one, two or three months at a time. Monitors can be supplied continuously, periodically or on a one-off basis. All monitoring services come with the ability to view your dose reports online and are approved by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
